  • Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico - From January 29 through February 1st, twenty-four of Mexico's best Charro associations will gather in Puerto Vallarta to compete in the Fourth National Charro Championship 'Grand Premio 2015' at Arena Vallarta.

The announcement was made during last week's LXX National Charro Championship 'Jalisco 2014' in Tlajomulco de Zuniga by the head of the organizing committee, Alfonso "Poncho" Bernal Romero, who commented on the advantages of holding such an important event in Puerto Vallarta.

According to Bernal Romero, Vallarta was chosen to host the event because it is one of the major tourist destinations in the country, and Arena Vallarta's ultra-modern facility - which is handicap accessible and boasts seating for 5 thousand spectators, public rest rooms, a 600 car parking lot, a commercial area, and stables for the horses - is just 20 minutes from the city's International Airport.

Like its rodeo cousin in the United States, charreria turns cattle farming skills into competitive stunts. Contending teams show off techniques of jumping through the air onto wild mares, riding bucking broncos and bringing down rampaging bulls with lassos.

Some of the 4th Annual Championship's biggest attractions are the Regional Tournament Skirmishes, the third Pialadero de las Estrellas (rope flourishing demonstration) and a performance by the popular "Vaquero Musical" group after the third competition on Saturday, January 31st.

The Grand Premio, Poncho said, is a million pesos in prize money that will be distributed amongst the six teams that are finalists and the individual champions.

Poncho Bernal said that some of the teams that have been confirmed are: Tamariz CYM, Charros de Huichapan, Santo Cristo, Tres Potrillos and Charros de Cuauhtémoc, as well as Villa Oro Regional champions, Charros del Pedregal, and multi-champions Los Charros de Jalisco.

Los Norteños de Cresa, Rancho La Biznaga, the re-created Charros de Hacienda Guadalupe team, Rancho El Pitayo, and several more of the best charro teams in the country, will round out this year's list of competitors.

This year also marks the return of skirmishes, with about $70,000 pesos of the enrollment fees to be distributed amongst the winning teams. According to Sports Coordinator Dario Flores Gallardo, the teams have already confirmed their participation in the Grand Premio race and six of the eight skirmishes taking place, one for each rodeo.

With daily competitions and lots of hot rodeo action the 4th National Charro Championship 'Grand Premio 2015' is a perfect way to enjoy the real Mexico and its traditions.

Entrance fees are just $80 pesos a day, and on Saturday and Sunday the ticket price includes performances by Vaquero Musical. As a thank you to attendees, your ticket to Sunday's double final automatically enters you into a raffle for a late model car to be given away during the awards ceremony.
