This isn't really a letter, but having run out of options I thought I'd ask my question here. I'm moving to Bucerias and cannot find out the name, address and phone number of the cable television provider there. I assume it is the same as the one serving PV. Can you help me? |
Editor:
Dear Gail,
Telecable is listed as PV and Bahia de Banderas and has two phone numbers: 011-52-322-226-7799 and 011-52-329-298-2626. CosmoRed is listed in Nayarit as 011-52-322-297-4004.
You can also access the yellow pages at www.seccionamarilla.com and look for some other solutions.
Hope this helps. |

Dear Editor,
Have you any news regarding Belaire Golf Resort & Spa, under construction in the Marina area ?
Their is some speculation that this project is a major scam, take the money and run. Would be extremely interested in any information you may have gathered.

Dear Tom,
I found two links you might want to check out. If it is the project being built near Bay View Grand, it appears that work is still underway. The links have some newsletters that explain the current situation. I hope this helps.

My friend was visiting in March and your newspaper did an article on a reading of her play on March 15,2008. Her name is Eileen Obser. I'd like to see the article and I'm wondering how to see a previous article on line. Is that possible? Thanks, Jessie |
Editor:
I have attached the article you asked for to an e-mail. Most of the articles that appear on www.vallartatoday.com end up in our Archives. Just go to the website and at the bottom of the home page is a link to the archives. I hope you find what you are looking for and you visit vallartatoday.com often.

Thumbs up! It's nice to read a little information on Puerto Vallarta. My wife and I have been there every year for the last 12 years and its nice to see the web cam at Los Muertos Beach, wish there were more. Thanks. |

Thanks for the "Thumbs Up". We are working very hard to improve VallartaToday.com and we appreciate your comments and suggestions. We are also looking for new locations for other web cams in addition to the one on Los Muertos Beach. |

I enjoy reading Vallarta Today, but have not seen any articles by Gil Gevins recently. I have purchased his books at Lucy's Cabana, on our trips to PV, but always look forward to his weekly inserts in your publications. Is he still submitting his stories to Vallarta Today? We will be returning to your lovely city, in Nov/07 for our 17th annual vacation and anticipate another memorable holiday. |

I am currently in PV and have come across another time share scam.
The time share solicitors on the street are offering $100 to $350 dollars to anyone who agrees to attend a presentation. What seems to happen in alot of instances is that they promise the money in writing on the invitation but when they meet the client at the resort, they take the original invitation and write up a new one which they give to the resort without any reference to the promised dollars. They will ask the client not to mention any promise made of a money gift to the resort people. Instead, they will meet them after the presentation and give them the money. Ofcourse they disappear and the client is left with a blanket and bottle of tequila for spending two and a half hours (yes, not the agreed to 90 minutes) listening to the inane rantings of the sales people.
This situation is resulting in some confrontations by visitors with the resort staff. In all fairness, the resort staff repeatedly ask whether a promise of money was made but most people comply with the original request from the street hawker because they are told he would not get his commission.
Please alert visitors to this scam.

Letter to the Editor:
Last Sunday, my wife and I took our visitors from the US to see the Xiutla dancers at Los Arcos. They were impressed with what they had just witnessed and had nothing but praise for their (as usual) splendid performance and poise. Of course, we are used to this, first having seen them as a fledging group of approximately 40 kids at the Plaza Lazaro Cardenas in 1998.
At the present time, this number has evolved to around 250 and their artistic quality borders on professional even though their ages do not exceed 18 with very few exceptions. If you ever have a chance to stop by the Presidencia and watch their practice inside on a Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to about 9:30 p.m. you’ll be amazed at their discipline and dedication.
Once I watched as a mother introduced her very young daughter to the director. She was hoping to have her daughter accepted in the dance group. The director in turn had some questions for the girl. The subsequent pat on the head must have been what she was after as her face lit up while she held on to her mother and gave a smile of gratitude to the director. It was so touching that we bought her a Xiutla T-shirt to make her day complete. One day she’ll be the one dancing the beautiful dances of Chiapas, Veracruz, Jalisco, etc. and along the way she will develop the poise, discipline, and work ethic that will serve her well in life.
Kids that started out like her:
· Traveled though Mexico extensively and won numerous performance awards.
· Were invited by the former First Lady of Mexico to dance at the Guadalajara Cumbre of 2004 for the Heads of State of all European and Latin American countries.
· Represented Mexico at various trade and tourism fairs in Europe and China.
· Represented Puerto Vallarta in the U.S., Canada, Europe and South America.
Until the past municipal administration, the group had relied strictly on funds generated from performances at various hotels and functions and donations from people who admired the Xiutla group to pay for all the costumes, shoes, hairpieces, jewelry, and more so they can put on the quality shows that they do. The director, Enrique Barrios Limon, founded the group for the love of dance, and neither he nor his assistants are compensated for their efforts and numerous hours of work for the past twelve years. All members of the Xiutla group are Vallartans and make Puerto Vallarta proud. They truly are the best “goodwill ambassadors” the city could ever hope for.
Let me conclude by saying that this organization has had a big impact on our lives and the way we look at Mexico and its culture. We spend 5-6 months a year here in this wonderful place called Puerto Vallarta and we enjoy many friends here – both locals and ex-patriots. When it came time for us to decide whether to buy here or not, undoubtedly the Xiutla group tipped the scale for us. We hope that this group will be representing Puerto Vallarta for years to come.

Have been to PV many times and enjoyed it.I mean OLD PV. The marina is great as well as time share city further out. Usually stay at the 400 block of Madero where the inexpensive hotels are located and you are within walking distance of everything. In the past, there were great articles written on tips on best taco stands, buses, sights to see and also up to date info on gringo happenings. What I have in mind is to stay at said hotels and find a furnished 1 or 2 bdrm apt.within old town. This is not for 2 or 3 weeks, it will be a permanent move. I have yet to see any for rent. If there is such or a group that has info, available, I'd appreciate your assistance. |

Dear Editor,
I just spent another delightful month in beautiful Puerto Vallarta. This
was our 22nd trip to Mexico. The people are so friendly. It was so
delightful throughout the entire trip except for one bad experience to do
with time share (what else).
After all these years I finally attended a Time share presentation at the
Mayon Resort. I informed the salesperson that I was not interested in
buying time shore but they insisted that I listen to their boiler room
presentation and out of courtesy to the salesperson I did listen right to
the end. I had been told I was required to spend 90 minutes to qualify for
a gift. Each of the salespeople took turns brow beating me for 3 1/2
hours. Whenever one sales person got through high pressuring me another
would come by and another and another until finally I stood up and said =B3NO
MORE, I=B9m out of here=B2. When I attempted to collect my gift another
salesperson said =B3sit here=B2 but I refused to sit and refused to hear any
more. He said =B3then go to hell you don=B9t get any gift=B2 so I left.
Fortunately the Manager (Chris) was within ear reach and I asked for his
intervention. He said =B3yes you do get your gift=B2 and I did and I left.
Why the Mexican government allow a bunch of sarcastic, ignorant, abusive,
money hungry non-Mexican sales people abuse tourists like that is indeed a
mystery. If anyone with influence is reading this please insist on your
government to make it mandatory that the time shore guest be given his/her
gift(s) immediately after 90 minutes of arrival at the resort. That would
end all time share problems. Also beautiful resorts such as the Mayon
Resort would not get branded with a bad reputation from such abuse of the
public by their own sales people.
I would be interested in hearing from others who have experienced similar
issues with time share =B3people=B2.
Sincerely,
Eleazar Yetman

Dear Editor:
I would like to comment concerning the recent possible extridition of D.O.G. The Bounty Hunter from U.S. Hawaii back to Mexico, Puerto Vallarta. As the majority of the U.S. are definitely fans of this man and his family, I will be bypassing the country of Mexico this year for my vacation/cruise as a form of boycott, and if Duane Chapman is prosecuted under your government, many U.S. citizens will boycott vacationining in your country permanently. D.O.G. captured a well-known sought-after felon from the United States, as he had a right to do! He also spends his entire life cleaning up the streets in the U.S. of sought-after felons. The fact that he was supposed to have turned this felon over to the Mexican Government, and that it is illegal to bounty hunt in your country tells me this is the reason your country is so over-run with criminals. We also have to worry about Mexican illegals crossing our borders and entering our neighborhoods in the U.S., in which my neighbor, a very wonderful person in our community was recently stabbed to death by an illegal alien from your country. We, here in the U.S. make every attempt to stay abreast of drug trafficking, law-breakers, and thank goodness we have people like the D.O.G. who can help accomplish this. Once again, if this man is prosecuted in the country of Mexico, for turning a serious criminal back over to our country from which he was a U.S. citizen, and committed 3 crimes here by my understanding, the U.S. citizens will boycott the country of Mexico for vacationing and any other contribution to tourism, and product purchasing, including buying your products, clothes, blankets, pottery, etc which are made in Mexico and shipped to the U.S.
Thank you for your time. |

My husband & I started traveling to PV back in the 70's -- most often staying at the Marsol. We were there on holiday at least twice a year, staying several weeks each stay. We made many friends. One, in particular, was Ruben Guerrero (and his Father). They were in the business of making jewelery. We lost contact, but heard later Ruben was selling timeshares and his father had passed away. Any (all be it small) chance you know of him and/or his whereabouts? |

I will not visit your country again after learning that your authorities are seeking to extradite the men that apprehended a fugitive of California, Andrew Luster a convicted rapist! When your laws allow leaving an animal on the streets to rape your wives and daughters rather then arrest him & send him back to the US for justice you have a country that no one should dare visit. When you seek prison terms against the men that were "man" enough to rid your country of this beast you no longer deserve our tourism. Shame on the Mexican Authorities and their backwards laws, truly they have no respect for their people or their country. |

Press Release:
Nuevo Idioma Internacional Aumenta en Popularidad
Mtra. Martha Cárdenas - Garymar2000@aol.com
Agosto 16, 2007
