PUERTO VALLARTA: Two of Mexico’s hotel chains took top spot as being the best places to work in Mexico.

Officially awarded as Great Place to Work (GPTW) Vidanta, which was formally the Mayan Palace, claimed the number one placement coming in fifth out of 100 establishments in the country. Catalonia Hotels took three positions, ranking 18, 36 and 38 out of the top 100.

To qualify, companies are ranked based on the health of their work environments, professional development opportunities, economic growth and promotion of gender equality. Companies are also recognized for ensuring legal benefits to employees.

Of the Catalonia Hotels, Catalonia Riviera Maya Resort & Spa ranked 18, Catalonia Royal Tulum ranked 36 and Catalonia Playa Maroma ranked 38 out of 100.

Vicente Molina, HR manager of Catalonia Hotels, said that this is the sixth time the hotel has received this recognition. They have more than 700 employees across three hotels.

He explained that part of their success is the hotel’s employee benefit plan. “We have an annual employee benefit plan as support for building their house at the end of the year,” Molina said.

He also said, “High occupation rates have allowed us (workers) to have stability. We provide school education through CROC and training courses in English, French, and now even Russian. According to law, we have an employee savings fund and paid holidays.”

CROC leader, Uri Carmona Islands, said that all the hotels are recognized – even those not in the ranking – because they offer regional job stability and that tourism depends a lot on what is done to promote the destination.
