This Thursday, the new state prosecutor was sworn in
Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz was sworn in as state prosecutor (FE) this Thursday afternoon after being ratified by the majority of local deputies during the extraordinary session of the Plenary of the Jalisco Congress. In this way, Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz officially replaces Gerardo Octavio Solís Gómez, who left the state agency this week due to health issues. As he mentioned during his appearance before the legislators last Wednesday, the work he will carry out at the head of the institution will have a high degree of commitment to the citizens who have been victims of a crime and who seek justice. His work at the head of the Executive Prosecutor's Office in Criminal Investigation since April 2019 to date, allowed him to know in depth the behavior of high-impact crimes such as kidnappings, extortions, homicides as well as robberies in their various forms. Together with the directors of the areas that make up said Prosecutor's Office, he coordinated investigation strategies that led to the arrest of the probable perpetrators of several of these facts who were brought before the judicial authorities and are currently undergoing a process.
In addition, his position allowed him to establish a coordination work with the different municipal police stations of the metropolitan area of Guadalajara as well as with the State Police and federal authorities, with the main objective of eradicating criminal events, a task that he will continue now as State Prosecutor. Previously, Méndez Ruiz served as general director of Specialized Investigation within the same FE, from December 2018 to April 2019, where he led a reorganization in the reception of complaints and creation of specialized areas for the investigation of certain crimes. Leadership and discipline are some of the skills with which the State Prosecutor has by which he will be governed at the head of the institution where he will seek that the victims of crimes obtain justice. ACADEMIC BACKGROUND Luis Joaquín Méndez Ruiz graduated with a law degree from the Universidad Univer de Guadalajara in 2004, with a specialization in Criminal Law. He also holds a Master's Degree in Constitutional Law and Amparo in 2014, from Universidad América Latina de Guadalajara. He was certified by the Technical Secretariat of the Coordination Council for the Implementation of the Criminal Justice System in 2015
