A researcher at the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEM) has been working on algorithms to be used in the fields of medicine and biotechnology.
These algorithms, designed by María de Lourdes López García, could accurately measure internal organs through 3D-modeling.
Images of small objects hardly ever achieve precise measurements of what they’re representing, said López García, but algorithms could do a much better job.
Algorithms represent series of steps to be followed by programmers and software designers, she explained. In medicine, they can provide accurate measurements of a patient’s body, improving on the efficiency of devices like cameras used during surgery, which have a limited field of vision. They can also be of use to other fields like geography, satellite imagery and even entertainment, she added.
