Disarmament as a path to stability in Puerto Vallarta.

Disarmament of weapons of war such as pistols and rifles is essential for building a safer and more harmonious world. World peace is not only the absence of war, but the existence of conditions that foster security, cooperation and respect between nations and communities.

  1. Less weapons, less violence:

The proliferation of weapons encourages the escalation of conflicts and the increase of violence, both in wars and in everyday life. Countries with high rates of gun ownership tend to have higher rates of homicide and armed violence.

  2. Reduction of international conflicts: The existence of firearms facilitates the violent resolution of disputes. Without weapons, nations are more obliged to negotiate, dialogue and resolve conflicts through diplomacy, promoting a culture of peace.

  3. Citizen security: A world with fewer weapons allows security to be based on trust, justice and social development instead of repression or fear.

  4. Resources for development and not for war: Governments spend billions on weapons when those resources could be used on education, health, technology and social welfare.

  5. Protection of human rights: Weapons facilitate genocides, dictatorships and war crimes. Limiting their access helps prevent abuses and strengthens people's fundamental rights.

From the vision of the 4T: Building a peaceful and just society

The Fourth Transformation (4T) in Mexico promotes a policy based on humanism, social justice and the pacification of the country. In this context, getting rid of weapons is an action aligned with its fundamental principles.

  1. "Hugs, not bullets": The 4T has insisted that violence is not fought with more violence, but with social well-being, opportunities and a fundamental transformation in society. Disarming the civilian population and reducing access to weapons is key to achieving this.

  2. Gradual demilitarization: Although the military plays a role in national security, the long-term goal is for the country to rely less on armed forces and more on preventive and community strategies.

  3. Reduction of organized crime: Many legal weapons end up in the hands of criminal groups. Limiting their access helps to weaken criminal structures and prevent them from continuing to sow fear in society.

  4. Welfare policy: The 4T promotes social programs for young people and vulnerable communities, in order to attack the causes of violence. If there are fewer weapons and more opportunities, fewer people will resort to violence as a means of livelihood.

  5. Promotion of justice and legality: A country with fewer weapons promotes respect for the rule of law, preventing people from taking justice into their own hands and strengthening the institutions responsible for security.

From the deepest values of Christianity: A call to love and non-violence

Christianity, in its purest essence, is a message of love, peace and reconciliation. Jesus himself taught by his example the importance of rejecting violence and trusting in God to resolve conflicts.

  1. “Blessed are the peacemakers” (Matthew 5:9): Jesus made it clear that those who seek peace will be called children of God. Getting rid of weapons is an act of peacemaking that reflects the true essence of Christianity.

  2. “You shall not kill” (Exodus 20:13): This fundamental commandment makes it clear that life is sacred. The existence of weapons makes it easy to kill, even in moments of anger or despair, which goes against this divine principle.

  3. “He who kills by the sword will die by the sword” (Matthew 26:52): Jesus rebuked Peter when he tried to defend him with a sword, showing that the Christian way is not one of violence, but of love and forgiveness.

  4. “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31): If we truly love others, we do not want to hurt them or live in an environment where violence is a constant possibility.

  5. Transformation of the heart: Weapons are a symbol of fear and mistrust. Christianity calls us to trust in God and human goodness, building communities where security comes from love and solidarity, not from the threat of violence.

From the perspective of world peace, the 4T and Christian values, the disarmament of society is an act of responsibility, justice and love. It is about building a safer and more harmonious world, where dialogue and well-being replace violence and fear.
