A Connection to Naval History
On Saturday, September 28, the Naval History Museum of Puerto Vallarta will host a highly anticipated event that has become a beloved tradition: the Ninth Edition of Museum Night. This special evening will not only offer cultural and educational activities but also commemorate a significant milestone in Mexico’s history: the creation of the Naval Aviation School, which took place on September 1, 1943. This celebration will be a free event for all ages and will take place in the heart of Puerto Vallarta, next to the iconic arches on the malecón, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
September 1, 1943, marked a milestone in Mexico's military and aeronautical history with the creation of the Naval Aviation School. This event is significant not only for the military but also for the technological and educational development of the country. The Naval Aviation School has been responsible for training generations of naval pilots who, over the years, have contributed to the defense of Mexican territory and assisted in rescue missions and humanitarian aid. The commemoration of this event during Museum Night seeks to honor this legacy and bring the public closer to an essential aspect of Mexico's naval and military history.
One of the main attractions of this edition of Museum Night is its inclusive and family-friendly focus. The event is designed for all ages, allowing both children and adults to enjoy and learn through various activities. The Naval History Museum of Puerto Vallarta, known for its rich display of artifacts and documents that narrate the maritime history of the region, will transform into an interactive space where attendees can immerse themselves in naval life.
The evening will feature drawing workshops where young attendees can explore their creativity and learn about naval-themed art. Guided by local artists, these workshops will allow children to express themselves while learning about ships, marine life, and the navy's role in Puerto Vallarta's history. Drawing as an educational tool fosters creativity while teaching participants to observe and appreciate history from an artistic perspective.
Sailor knots are an essential skill for any sailor. During Museum Night, attendees will have the chance to learn how to tie sailor knots through practical workshops. These techniques, used for centuries to secure sails, fasten cargo, and perform essential tasks in navigation, will be taught by experts. Visitors can test their manual skills and learn about the importance of these knots in both navigation and sailors’ daily lives.
Another workshop that promises to capture the public's attention is the crafting of rank insignia and badges. These symbols are fundamental to the hierarchy and order within the Armed Forces. Attendees will learn about the meaning of different ranks and how the badges that represent them are designed. The creation of these insignia will be both an educational and entertaining activity, allowing participants to learn more about the structure and values of the Mexican Navy.
A key highlight of the celebration will be the presence of stands from the Marine Infantry. These stands will offer information and exhibits about the various roles and missions carried out by the Marine Infantry in the defense and security of the country. Attendees will get a firsthand look at the equipment and weapons used by marine infantry personnel, as well as the various specializations within this military branch. Additionally, there will be opportunities to interact with Marine Infantry members, who will share their experiences and answer questions about their service.
One of the most anticipated moments of Museum Night will be the presentation of the canine unit. Dogs trained by the Navy play a crucial role in search and rescue missions, as well as in detecting explosives and hazardous substances. During the presentation, attendees will witness these highly skilled dogs in action, demonstrating not only their intelligence but also their incredible bond with their handlers. This exhibition will highlight the importance of teamwork and loyalty between the canines and the marines.
The Naval History Museum of Puerto Vallarta is one of the city’s most important cultural spaces. Located on the malecón, this museum features a rich collection of objects, documents, and exhibits that narrate the maritime history of Mexico and its relationship with the Pacific. During Museum Night, visitors will have the opportunity to tour its halls and learn more about the region's naval history. The museum’s collection includes everything from ancient maps to ship models and naval uniforms, offering a comprehensive view of the sea’s importance in Mexican life.
