pascua2018frontPuerto Vallarta recorded 100% occupancy rates.

The state of Jalisco reported strong visitor numbers during the Easter vacation, during which many tourists favored the city of Guadalajara, something that was “unthinkable” just a few years ago.

That was the pronouncement by the state tourism secretary when he reported that hotel occupancy rates reached 70% in the state capital. “It was unthinkable, it would not have been possible before,” said Enrique Ramos Flores, adding that visitor numbers in the past used to drop during the winter and spring vacation periods.

“Most visitors come [to Guadalajara] on business, that’s the segment we’re focused on,” he said. More conventional vacation destinations like Puerto Vallarta performed as expected, reporting 100% occupancy over the two-week-long vacation.

Year-on-year visitor numbers in the Pacific resort town were up 3.7%, reaching a total of 800,000 tourists. Guadalajara welcomed 650,000 visitors, which represented estimated revenues of over 2 billion pesos (US $111 million).

An additional 550,000 people visited other destinations in the state, bringing the total number of people who spent their vacations in Jalisco to 2 million.

The mountain destination towns of Tapalpa and Mazalmita, among others, also had a good year, with stronger numbers than those reported last year.
