During the premiere of the film Pinocchio at the London

Guillermo del Toro confirmed thedeath of his mother, Guadalupe Gómez, during the premiere of the film Pinocchio at the London Film Festival, and with this news we must remember the important role she played in her son's career and in the history of Mexican cinema, where she was known as Guadalupe del Toro.

During the premiere of his version of Pinocchio, as part of the London International Film Festival, Guillermo del Toro announced the news about the person who always supported him in his career.

"My mother just passed away. This was very special for her and for me. This is not only the first time you will see the film; it is the first time she will see it with us," said the filmmaker.

Lupita Gómez was not only the mother of Guillermo del Toro, one of the most important and respected Mexican filmmakers in the industry in recent decades, but an essential figure to understand the beginnings of the Oscar winner's professional career and the way films have been made in our country since the 1980s.

Doña Guadalupe starred in Doña Herlinda y su hijo, a 1985 film directed by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, considered to be one of the most innovative directors in Mexican cinema.

In the story she played Herlinda, the mother of a young man who has a gay relationship and pretends not to realize it, but does everything possible to get him to marry a woman.

During 1985 she accepted to star in Doña Lupe, a short horror film directed by Memo as an exercise, which was released publicly 23 years later in a special DVD edition.

The story narrates the life of a woman who, in search of money, rents a room to two corrupt policemen. The Morelia International Film Festival, where he has presented all his films since Pan's Labyrinth, mourned the loss of his friend Del Toro.

"We join in the grief that overwhelms him and wish his family and friends a speedy resignation. May he rest in peace," the event wrote on its social networks. The University of Guadalajara also expressed its condolences.
