Puerto Vallarta becomes the epicenter of arboriculture.
Puerto Vallarta, a paradise surrounded by lush jungles and unique natural landscapes, is the host of the Mexican Tree Climbing Championship, an event that celebrates the art and science of caring for and working with trees. This exciting competition, organized by the Mexican Arboriculture Association (AMA), features the participation of 40 competitors from all over Mexico, who will demonstrate their talent, skill and commitment to the environment.
The finals, which promise to be an unforgettable spectacle, will take place on Saturday, February 8, and are expected to attract both local residents and foreign visitors fascinated by the natural wonders of this region.
What is the Mexican Tree Climbing Championship?
This championship is not just a competition, but a celebration of tree care and the importance of proper management. Participants—experts in arboriculture, gardening, and climbing—will compete in five exciting stations that will test both their physical strength and technical knowledge:
- Aerial Rescue: Simulates an emergency rescue from the top of a tree, a key test to ensure safety in real-life situations.
- Assured Speed Climb: Participants must climb a tree in the shortest possible time, using specialized equipment.
- Wave Throw: A technique that involves accurately throwing a rope to anchor it in high branches.
- Tree Work: Assesses skills to move safely and efficiently between branches while performing simulated tasks.
- Access Event: Competitors demonstrate their ability to ascend the tree using advanced rope systems.
Each of these stations combines technique, skill, and respect for trees, highlighting the importance of protecting and handling them with professionalism.
A unique show for foreigners in Vallarta

The championship not only showcases the technical excellence of the competitors, but also the richness of the natural environment that makes Vallarta such a special place. It is located in the Colonia Fluvial Vallarta.
Martín Morales, representative of the Mexican Arboriculture Association, highlighted the relevance of this event to raise awareness about the preservation of trees: “It is not just about climbing trees, but about understanding their importance for life and ecological balance.”
In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about arboriculture through educational exhibits, interactive workshops, and talks given by tree care experts.
