GOLFThe destination seeks to use the game of polo to strengthen luxury tourism, the Premium segment and investments; all of these elements dovetail perfectly with the Riviera Nayarit and its objectives.

The 3rd International Beach Polo Cup 2014 was announced during a press conference; the event will be held May 1 – 4 at the Hard Rock Hotel Vallarta. This is the sixth time the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) will be backing the event; it’s the third time it will take place on the beach.

The event has grown to encompass eight teams: two from Guadalajara and two from Mexico City, plus teams from Italy, Canada and Switzerland, as well as a mixed team with players from Mexico and Argentina. It is also being extended one more day for a total of four days.

José Antonio Amutio, Marketing Director for Tucané and part of the organizing committee, informed they are expecting a 30% increase in visitors compared with last year’s cup, which had around 650 spectators.

“Pablo Pieres, the top polo player in the world, will be participating in the event,” said Amutio. “Polo is a bridge to investments, as we are expecting an influx of celebrities and international businessmen.”

This sporting event blends glamour, luxury, rock, beach and family. The date was chosen to take advantage of a national holiday.

“Thanks to the support of the Riviera Nayarit CVB and the State Government the events at the Hard Rock keep coming and keep getting bigger,” said Manuel Rubio, General Manager of the host hotel.

Among the novelties of the 2014 event: it will be the first tournament with augmented reality taking place during the event itself, generating interaction through technology. Another special touch: each of the trophies is an exclusive work of art.

The Riviera Nayarit CVB promotes and encourages high-expenditure tourism per the direction of the Banderas Bay Hotel and Motel Association and the State Government.

“I would like to thank the organizers who have put together this event for the sixth time, as it clearly identifies the Riviera Nayarit as a luxury destination,” said Marc Murphy, General Director of the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau. “This type of event fits perfectly with the destination. It’s a luxury sport that attracts tourism with high purchasing power, which greatly helps the bay area.”

ftvtThe tournament will award four million Mexican pesos’ worth of new cars, boat motors and professional fishing equipment to the winners.

The 54th San Blas Riviera Nayarit Fishing Tournament will take place on May 28th through June 1st at the Marina Fonatur in the historic Port of San Blas, according to a press conference held by the Organizing Committee together with Nayarit’s Secretary of Tourism, Raúl Rodrigo Pérez.

The bounty for the winners totals more than four million Mexican pesos and includes nine new cars, boat motors and professional fishing equipment. Those who can beat the current record of 70 Kg for a sailfish will win a car, and another one will be raffled among all of the other participants that didn’t already win one.

“This year we’re expecting to surpass the 63-boat registration record we established last year and thus keep our status as the best fishing tournament in the Mexican Pacific,” said Francisco Navarrete Buhaya, General Manager of the Riviera Nayarit Fishing Tournament.

The Riviera Nayarit is considered one of the top sport fishing destinations in the world thanks to its exceptional climate, marine conditions and species diversity.

“There are older tournaments than that of San Blas, however, since 2010 it has gained notoriety as the best thanks to its capture records, the amount of registered vessels and, of course, the prize money and awards we give out,” commented Buhaya.

There are three categories: sailfish, marlin and dorado. Every year, the top winner in each category is entered into the “Hall of Fame.” This year they’ll be welcoming anglers from Nayarit, Jalisco, Sinaloa, Guanajuato and Veracruz among other states, as well as sportsmen from the United States and Canada.

“The Board we have in place today has teamed up perfectly with the State Government and the Riviera Nayarit CVB. All the promotion the event has received thus far has brought in great sponsors and every year their support grows,” acknowledged Francisco Navarrete.

Besides the San Blas event, the 3rd International Fishing Tournament in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle will also be held later this year on October 15-19.

Those who are interested in participating in these tournaments are invited to visit the official page of the Tepic Sport Fishing Club at www.clubdepescadeportivatepic.com.

About 140 vessels from the United States, Canada and the northern coast of the Mexican Pacific that are sailing as part of the traditional Baja Ha-Ha will visit the area for a lengthy stay that will benefit tourism in general. For the third year in a row the destination prepares to celebrate the Riviera Nayarit Sailors’ Splash, a rally that coincides with the 21st anniversary of the Baja Ha-Ha, whose participants will be arriving in the area starting on December 12th. The Marina Riviera Nayarit in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle will welcome about 140 vessels that will be generating excellent dividends for tourism in the region thanks to their extended stay in the Banderas Bay area. Latitude 38 Sailing Magazine and the Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB), sponsors of the event, joined forces with the Marina and laid the groundwork to receive the approximately 300 people that will be generating income for local businesses.

“This rally translates into occupancy for the marinas along the Mexican Pacific from November through May; many of these vessels actually stay the whole year round,” commented Rafael Alcántara, Harbor Master for the Marina Riviera Nayarit. “In this manner they activate the economy not only for the marinas but also for the cities and towns they come across.” Alcántara describes this rally as the most stable in the last ten years and one that, among other things, has consistently grown year after year and has positioned itself as the “originator of nautical tourism from the United States and Canada towards the coasts of the Mexican Pacific,” he added.

Whenever vessels arrive the area kicks off different nautical activities to engage the visitors, including the Banderas Bay Blast regatta, a fun competition that takes place over the course of three days in the waters around de La Cruz, Punta de Mita and Nuevo Vallarta. It’s important to mention that the Baja Ha-Ha is an event that plays out on an international stage, as it has brought together over 10 thousand sailors since its inception.

Flamingos Golf Club-Marriot Casa Magna

January 26, 2008

Next Saturday January 26, we will have the fifth Tournament Make a Wish® México at Flamingos Club de Golf in Nuevo Vallarta, Nay.

18 teams (4 players each) will be participating together with 18 national and international companies in order to collaborate to make possible same number of wishes for different Mexican children currently fighting against terrible life threatening illnesses.

The present tournament has become already a wonderful and very expected tradition in which to gather friends and in which we can put together our brotherly efforts for a very noble cause while enjoying a fun challenging competition. Golfers from different places of the region will be adding to the list of participants; each one will be offering through their registration fee a donation and a valuable gift to the magical moment of a kid getting his or her wish.

The tournament will be played in the mode Scramble, that is, the teams will start on the hole number one with intervals of 8 minutes between them; the four members will hit a ball each and the better one will be the one played. This will make it a dynamic game and the competition between the members of the team will also be a fun way to play it.

In every hole there will be a big announcement with the name, age, illness and the wish of one or more of the kids referred to Make A Wish® Mexico, the names of the team members of a given team and the logos of their participating sponsor companies. In this way, everyone will know who is playing and which companies are sponsoring the cause.

The registration will open at 9:00 a.m. The first team will be starting their round at 10:00 a.m. in such way that around 14 hours the game should be ending and everyone goes to relax and prepare for the magnificent that will be served at the Marriot Casa Magna Hotel at Marina Vallarta and that will take place at the Awards Ceremony.

The ceremony will be filled with magic and emotion. It will be the occasion to celebrate the good will and to thank for the generosity of those who support Make-A-Wish® México and the many children that every day fight in hopes that they will get a miracle.

Of course, our very special and hart felt thanks are for Flamingo Club de Golf, for Mr. Bill Davis and all of his marvellous team; For the Marriot Casa Magna Hotel for the unconditional, immediate and wonderful support and for Mr. Joe Johnston expert in Golf and invaluable assessor for Make-A-Wish® Foundation México.  Deep sea fishing…..What a sport; and what a difference a day can make. From hero on day one; to third stringer or out of the running in just 24 hours. As an avid racing sailor I thought sailing was high on skill and luck but fishing brings a new meaning to this fact. It has even more variables, I reckon. Wednesday was signing in day and the Sheraton Hotel, one of the sponsors, was the rallying point and hosted the final dinner on Saturday night. The processing of 285 fisherman or ‘rods’ hosted on 102 boats (both figures are a record) took some time and we were lucky to be early for this. This event is hosted by the local Club de Pesca of Puerto Vallarta where many elitist Vallartenses have laboured hard to make this 50th anniversary tournament the biggest ever in every regard including prizes. SAILFISH: First Place to Sr.Jose Alfonso FONS weighing 51.60 Kg. aboard DISCOVERY Prize a new Mercedes Benz B-200 Turbo. 2nd place to Sr. Felipe PALACIOS Quintero (Felipe’s restaurant) weighing 50.80 kgs aboard YAIMAICA he won a new pick-up truck Chevy Meriva 3rd place went to Sr. Oscar Arturo AMARAL weighing 45.60 aboard OSCAR (owner of OSCAR’s restaurant) Prize Chevy C-2 three door MARLIN : First Place to Mr. Clarke SMITH weighing 173.20; prize a Silverado Pick-up 1500, 2nd place Stefan KNEFFEL weighing 172.30 winning a Corsa sedan 4 door and 3rd place to the person I replaced aboard KEEMO SABE Bob PATE aboard DAMNIFANO who ended up with $5000. in cash. TUNA: First place to Jeff CORTES with a 79.30 kg fish, prize an Astra 4 door; 2nd place to Oscar DIAZ weighing 59.60 Mercury outboard 60HP 4 stroke engine. (he also won third place with another tuna and won an additional $2500 in cash) DORADO: First place to Rafail ARECHIAGA Esquivel weighing 20.10kgs. 2nd place to Juan Fernando CALDERON weighing 16.70 and 3rd to Hector Arriaga with a weight of 15.80 kgs.
