breast milk 1024x683

PUERTO VALLARTA, JALISCO.- The Breast Milk opened four months ago, but it hardly has enough milk to feed one third of hospitalized infants in Mother and Child Hospital, in need to be fed. Up to this moment, it has only has15 donors.

The Bank, located in Guadalajara’s Mother and Child "Esperanza López Mateos" Hospital, attends premature and underweight babies. The 15 volunteers donate a portion of their milk, as many times as they wish, or whenever they decide to do so. To be a donor, both, mother and their babies, have to be in good health and at home.

There is also another group of 50 women, who are also donors, but they their babies are hospitalized and whatever milk they generate is mostly for their own babies. They can only donate if and when they have a surplus.

Despite these contributions, there is a deficit of breast milk for 70% of hospitalized infants. The bank gets just enough milk to feed 30 % of the babies; the other 70 % is fed with formula, in spite of their vulnerable conditions.

"The 30% of the premature and underweight babies that are fed with donated milk are babies that have been in the hospital for a long period of time. It is expected that by feeding them with nutritious breast milk, their stayed at the hospital could be reduced. “It is necessary to promote and to create a culture of breast milk donation", commented Jorge Castro Albarrán, Manager of the milk bank. Adding that, sometimes mothers just throw their milk away, when they could very well donate it. "We intend to reach all these mothers so that with their help we fulfill our goal of feeding 100% of the babies who are hospitalized."

According to Castro Albarran, a healthy nursing mother usually generates more milk than what her baby needs. He also wants everyone to know that the milk that is donated is analyzed to determine if it is feasible to be administered to a newborn, and that it is pasteurized.

puertovallartabus"Bus fares will soon be seven pesos in Guadalajara, 7.50 in Puerto Vallarta, and 6.50 in other municipalities across Jalisco. The increase will become law within 15 days of being signed by Governor Emilio Gonzalez."

Under pressure from powerful transport monopolies, a new tariff commission established by the State Congress this week has approved a one-peso hike in state-wide bus fares.

A 10-hour strike by bus drivers across Jalisco on Monday forced the issue of public transport onto the legislative agenda. Demanding a two-peso (33-percent) fare increase, the Bus Owners Alliance took radical action after failing to reach an agreement with the state government last weekend.

Around 4,500 buses from over 60 different routes did not run in Guadalajara from 5 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, while more drivers went on strike in Puerto Vallarta, Ciudad Guzman, Tepatitlan, Arandas, Atotonilco and Ameca.

After analyzing learned that milk has more nutrients than regular cow's milk

daisycowSYDNEY, AUSTRALIA (02/OCT/2012.) - More than 15 years after Dolly the sheep, the first cloned mammal on the planet, New Zealand scientists have created genetically Daisy Cow hopes to produce the first milk test allergies.

Daisy, bred in the laboratories of the state AgResearch, is hoping for that two or three percent of babies in their first year of life can not tolerate milk, according to a study to be published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) and advances the company.

"We have succeeded in greatly reducing the amount of beta-lactoglobulin (BLG), a milk protein that is not present in human milk and may cause allergic reactions," said Stefan Wagner, one of the researchers at AgResearch .

Furthermore, Daisy milk contains a large amount of casein, other proteins that are present in cow's milk, which makes it more nutritious than that produced by the common cattle.

The laboratories have analyzed milk Daisy to corroborate hipoalérgenas features and will be many years before coming to industrial production and marketing of this product in New Zealand, a country known for its strict regulation on food safety.

So do not look favorably on all the animal specimen, who was born without a tail and draft hypoallergenic milk is considered by Steffan Browning, New Zealand Green Party lawmaker as a danger to the reputation of your country as a producer of natural and safe food.

The New Zealand organic products generated revenue of more than A $ 828 million annually (eight thousand pesos approximately 230 million), mainly due to exports.

To the objections of environmentalists has joined GE Free New Zealand, an organization that opposes genetic engineering, as it believes that the experiment eliminates a protein necessary for the development of the cow and humans and also represents an act of animal cruelty.

The president of GE Free New Zealand, Claire Bleakley said TVNZ chain protein that "is essential for healthy digestion, immune system function and formation of healthy bone tissues healthy, teeth and muscle development."

AgResearch Bleakley recalled that employed more than twelve years to clone a cow at the expense of the deaths of hundreds of embryos for experiments, forcing the organization to suspend its program of cloning because only ten percent of the animals survived their tests.

Creating Daisy was the result of a long process that included work with cell cultures and mice using cloned to produce a type of sheep BLG protein in the milk of rodents by genetic inhibition technique called RNA interference.

In this process were inoculated two microRNA (small ribonucleic acid molecules) mice to lower levels of said protein allergen in 96%.

In the next stage, a cow genetically scientists created using the same technique and hormonally induced to produce milk.

Generally start producing cows milk from 20 months of age, but scientists Daisy incited to do before for purposes of study, although their numbers were small.

Also investigate why no tail, if it is a rare congenital disease that affects cows or due to other reasons.

In the future, scientists will investigate if Daisy Zealanders, eleven months and currently living on a farm in the country to develop with their peers, can produce greater quantities of milk hypoallergenic.

Nuevo Vallarta received its first impulse to become the first “Clean Tourist Destination” in Mexico; federal and state level environmental certificates were given to businesses in Nayarit; the Islas Marietas will have a new, modern vessel dedicated to their care.

During a ceremony held on October 31st at the Paradise Village Hotel in Nuevo Vallarta, the federal and state authorities related with the environment announced several activities to help increase the environmental efforts within the Riviera Nayarit and the state at large.

The head of the Federal Environmental Protection Agency (Profepa, by its acronym in Spanish), Guillermo Haro Bélchez was in charge of announcing the Boost for Recognition of Nuevo Vallarta as a “Clean Tourist Destination.”

Besides signing the agreement, the encounter also provided a forum for the award of the Tourism Environmental Quality Certificates to businesses on a federal and state level on behalf of Profepa by the state Secretariat of Environment. Vallarta Adventures was one of the tourism-focused businesses that received a certificate.

“No one has any doubt that Nayarit is a great state with incredible natural resources and a calling for tourism,” declared Haro Bélchez. “That’s why today we want to establish a new momentum for us to attain recognition for Nuevo Vallarta as the first Clean Tourist Destination, something we’re close to achieving by the beginning of 2015.”

“We want Nayarit to become the banner state, the flagship for other clean tourism destinations,” added Guillermo Haro, as he pointed out the processes for consolidating the naming are quite advanced, which is why they are seeking for the area hotels to align themselves with the Profepa guidelines.

The Islas Marietas will have more protection

“One of the fundamental aspects is that we want to double down on our commitment to the surveillance and care of the Islas Marietas National Park,” commented Haro as he announced that at least one of the new vessels that were purchased together with the Department of the Navy will be dedicated exclusively to the care of the Islas Marietas along with the armada.

The vessel will be delivered before the end of the year in order to be able to better care for visitors, tourists and, above all, this natural heritage site.

Another topic mentioned was the Playa en Regla program, which seeks to regulate beach venders via more security in the federal zone. This initiative takes place all year long but will be reinforced in the Guayabitos area, where there are only 200 permits for vendors but at times there are around 1,000 at a time.

a5t1. Life is an adventure. There is a big world out there to explore. Seeing it on TV or in the movies is one thing. Getting out and experiencing it is totally different. You can watch a TV special about a person walking down a jungle trail and seeing a python in a tree, or, you can walk down a jungle trail and see the python yourself. The first experience you will forget tomorrow; the second you will remember for a lifetime.

“Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”  Helen Keller

“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.”  Jawaharlal Nehru

“Once you have traveled, the voyage never ends, but is played out over and over again in the quietest chambers. The mind can never break off from the journey.” Pat Conroy

2. We all need to escape on occasion. Life can be hectic. We get lost in our day-to-day existence. Traveling breaks the chain. It recharges our batteries. Even planning a trip eases the tedium by giving us something to dream about.

“One of the gladdest moments of human life is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one mighty effort the fetters of habit, the leaden weight of routine, the cloak of many cares and the slavery of home, man feels once more happy.”  Richard Burton

3. Travel challenges and changes our understanding of the world. Not only do we learn about other places and other cultures, we learn more about our own. When I returned from serving for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Africa, I realized that even my father had a slightly different culture than mine. He had been raised in a different time, had different experiences, and even had different beliefs. There was much I could learn from him, just as I did from the Kpelle people of Liberia.

“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness.”  Mark Twain

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”  St. Augustine

“The whole object of travel is not to set foot on foreign land; it is at last to set foot on one’s own country as a foreign land.”  G.K. Chesterton

4. Travel can also change how we view ourselves and how we perceive the world around us. For 20 years of my life, I took people on hundred mile backpack trips. Few of these people had ever backpacked 100 miles and some had never backpacked at all. The sheer physical challenge of hiking up and over mountains for nine days while dealing with weather, insects and wildlife created an adventure they would never forget. For many, it was a life-altering event. It changed their perspective of who they were and what they could accomplish. Any journey can change how you view yourself and the world… but you have to be open to learn from the experience.

“All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” Martin Buber

“One’s destination is never a place, but a new way of seeing things.”  Henry Miller

“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”  Bill Bryson

5. Great beauty exists in the world. Whether it is a towering redwood on the northern coast of California or a towering cathedral in Florence, beauty is found wherever you wander. It can be as small as a raindrop on a flower, or as large as a waterfall cascading into Milford Sound, New Zealand. One doesn’t have to travel thousands of miles to find this beauty, however. It waits outside your door. Be like Bilbo Baggins: grab your pack and go charging after Gandalf. Treasures beyond your imagination await you.

“Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.”  Andre Gide

“Without new experiences, something inside of us sleeps. The sleeper must awaken.”  Frank Herbert

“Two roads diverged in a wood and I took the one less traveled by.” Robert Frost

The website GastricBypassMexico.com is considered by general visitors and industry peers as one of the best for usability, content, mobility, and design. The launch of the new bariatric campaign this summer 2014, with an exclusive focus on gastric sleeve surgery (also known as gastrectomy sleeve) will benefit US patients under the current economic climate.

Dr. Castaneda explains: "We are continuously working to understand the needs of our international patients, and one of the main obstacles mentioned by people relates to the cost of bariatric surgery. At the same time, summer is particularly a better time to undergo weight loss surgery because it gives patients quality time to recover during a typical holiday season. Today, I am launching a new campaign aimed at patients in the United States looking for gastric sleeve surgery in Mexico. The interest received just on our Facebook page has been fantastic and we want to reciprocate."

Since its launch in the summer of 2013, GastricBypassMexico.com has grown exponentially in content, features and usability. From this week, patients looking for weight loss surgery in Mexico will be able to use the new Chat Line which gives website visitors a direct and easy way to contact Dr. Castaneda´s staff and support team right then and there. How much does bariatric surgery cost, which weight loss surgery is best, hospital information, references and more. There is an excellent and highly trained patient support team in place to assist the public with professional guidance. And completely free to use for our visitors."

Gastric sleeve in Mexico is typically regarded as the most popular bariatric surgery and destination among patients arriving from the United States. Other types of weight loss surgery include gastric bypass surgery, gastric banding, duodenal switch surgery and mini gastric bypass, and in some cases some procedures can be done with minimally invasive surgery such as SILS (Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery), the cost of gastric sleeve SILS in Mexico slightly higher than the standard gastric sleeve surgery and most definitely worth considering. Standard gastric sleeve is usually performed making up to 5 incisions in the surgery area, whilst laparoscopic gastric sleeve is made with just one incision.

"GastricBypassMexico.com is always a good starting reference point to watch video patient testimonials, before and after weight loss surgery photos, which we publish on the website in both Spanish and English, always very useful for new patients considering gastric sleeve surgery abroad. And the website is just the initial starting point, people are encouraged to call or email a member of the GastricBypassMexico team, free and under no obligation," confirms patient support team leader Judith Tabares.

cucarachasA contestant in a roach-eating contest who downed dozens of live bugs and worms collapsed and died shortly after winning the contest in South Florida, authorities say.

About 30 contestants ingested the insects during Friday night's contest at Ben Siegel Reptile Store in Deerfield Beach about 40 miles north of Miami. The grand prize was a python.

Edward Archbold, 32, of West Palm Beach became ill shortly after the contest ended and collapsed outside the store, according to a Broward Sheriff's Office statement released Monday. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. Authorities were awaiting results of an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

The sheriff's office said none of the other contestants fell ill.

Unless the roaches were contaminated with some bacteria or other pathogens, I don't think that cockroaches would be unsafe to eat," said Michael Adams, professor of entomology at the University of California at Riverside. He said he has never heard of someone dying after consuming roaches.

"Some people do have allergies to roaches," he added, "but there are no toxins in roaches or related insects."

There was no updated phone number listed for Archbold in West Palm Beach.

"We feel terribly awful," said store owner Ben Siegel, who added that Archbold did not appear to be sick before the contest.

"He looked like he just wanted to show off and was very nice," Siegel said, adding that Archbold was "the life of the party."

A statement from Siegel's attorney said all the participants signed waivers "accepting responsibility for their participation in this unique and unorthodox contest."

The bugs consumed were from an inventory of insects "that are safely and domestically raised in a controlled environment as food for reptiles."

More than 300 workers had to be evacuated from the Abkatun A-Permanente rig

Mexico's state-run energy firm Pemex says it is still searching for three workers who went missing after a fire at an offshore oil platform.

Four people were killed in Wednesday's fire, the cause of which is unknown.

More than 300 workers had to be evacuated from the rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

Daily production in the area fell from 650,000 barrels to 430,000 barrels, a company official said, losing Pemex close to $10m (£6.7m) a day.

Pemex's director of exploration and production said it was difficult to restore production because of the large number of pipelines which had been affected.

'Panic'

The fire broke out at the Abkatun A-Permanente complex in the Campeche Sound.

One survivor described how workers had "jumped into the sea out of desperation and panic".

It took eight firefighting boats to quell the blaze.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto said there would be a thorough investigation into what had caused the fire.

Pemex said that while the accident had caused some oil to run off into the sea, a "considerable oil spill" had been averted.

In 1979, a blowout at a Pemex well in the Campeche Sound led to one of the worst oil spills in history,

It took Pemex more than nine months to stop the leak, during which time the oil travelled as far as the Texas shoreline.

amexicoriquezaTeotihuacán and Monte Alban are part of the 31 cultural sites inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List

Teotihuacán and Monte Alban are part of the 31 cultural sites inscribed on the World Heritage List of the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to locate to Mexico in the sixth place in the world and first in Latin America and the Caribbean

Well, Mexico takes the leadership in the area as well as the country with the greatest cultural property within this list and is endorsed with the inclusion of the last December 4, in Paris, France, from the Center for Indigenous Arts of Veracruz in the record of the Best Practices for the Safeguarding of the Heritage Intangible Cultural, commented in a statement the Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH).

Added to that, he said, are the celebrations for the 25th anniversary of the entry in the list of sites of Teotihuacán and Monte Alban. In addition, the archaeological zones The Tajin and Uxmal celebrated in 2012, their 20 and 16 years, respectively.

In Uxmal, Yucatan, celebrated this event with the exhibition "Uxmal, eight decades of exploration (1920-2012) ", composed of 24 photographs (12 former and 12 current ) that reveal the gradual recovery of the prehispanic site, fruit of the dedication and passion of several archaeologists.

In the pictures we appreciate monuments such as the quadrangle of the nuns, the Temple of the soothsayer, the Group of the Palomar, the ball game, the Group of the cemetery and the Palace of the Governor, among others, must be the institute.

These celebrations of the Mexican sites also coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Convention of World Cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO, signed in 1972.

For this reason,  last July  several meetings were made in Queretaro, with specialists from ten countries who called to prioritize conservation actions of the sites that are already registered, because the browser is about to arrive at the "golden number" of thousand properties inscribed
